Matter

If a kudos posted in Slack or Microsoft Teams without its coins, the usual causes are Coin Monitoring limits, coin eligibility settings, or rewards off.

Kudos posted but the coins did not arrive

Rename Matter coins and pick an emoji in Settings, Rewards, Advanced Settings. It shows in Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the web app; value is unchanged.

Renaming coins and choosing a coin icon

Matter coins come from kudos and feedback and buy rewards. The default allowance is 80 coins a week, 10 coins equal $1, and earned coins never expire.

How Matter coins work

Set your base currency to USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, NZD, CHF, or SGD in Settings, Rewards, Advanced Settings. Coins aren't converted; 10 coins equal 1 unit.

Base currency for Matter coins

No prepayment needed: Matter coins are free to give and receive. You are charged only when a Workspace Owner or Admin approves a reward redemption request.

Do I prepay for coins and rewards?

One Matter coin is worth 10 cents: 10 coins equal $1 USD or one unit of your base currency, so 250 coins buy a $25 gift card. Rewards start at…

Coin monitoring caps the coins one member can send another per allowance reset period. Over the limit, kudos still send without coins. Admins are exempt.

Coin monitoring system

Add Matter coins in the Give Kudos or Give Feedback form in Slack or Microsoft Teams. Coins multiply per recipient: 5 coins to 3 people costs 15.

Sending Matter coins to a team member

To give coins to several people in one kudos, enter the amount per recipient. Matter multiplies it by the number of recipients: 3 people at 20 coins is 60.

Giving coins to multiple team members

Pile coins onto existing kudos and celebrations in Slack or Microsoft Teams: click the More button next to 'Give Kudos', choose Add Coins, then Send.

Adding on coins to existing kudos and celebrations

Set a Default Allowance for everyone and Custom Allowances for chosen members or groups in Settings, Rewards. Custom Allowances override the default.

Setting default and custom coin allowances

Give managers or leadership extra coins: create a member group and assign it a custom coin allowance that overrides the default and follows group changes.

Assigning coins to a group of members

Set the Default Allowance to 0 in Rewards Settings, then add a Custom Allowance for each manager or leader. Only they will have coins to give away.

Assigning coins to managers or leadership only

Set coin allowances to reset weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, or manually under Settings, Rewards. The schedule is independent of Feedback Friday.

Change coin allowances reset frequency

Workspace Owners and Admins see each member's coin balance in the Rewards Report from Rewards Manager, or by editing a member under Settings, Members.

Seeing team members' coin balances

Give a member a one-time boost by editing their Coin Allowance Remaining in Settings, Members. The allowance is the coins they can give away in kudos.

Adjusting team members' coin allowance

Admins can add or subtract coins from a team member's earned coin balance in the Matter web app, for example to reward an activity Matter does not track.

Adjusting team members' coin balance

Reset all earned coins under Settings, Rewards, Advanced Settings in the web app, and reset default or custom coin allowances in the same Rewards section.

Resetting earned coins and coin allowances

Exclude contractors, interns, or seasonal staff from giving or receiving coins in Settings, Rewards. Excluded members can still give and receive kudos.

Excluding members from giving or receiving coins

A removed member's coins freeze until they rejoin the Slack or Microsoft Teams channel. Companies let coins lapse, re-add them, or redeem via an Admin.

What happens to coins when a member leaves Matter?

Bulk add or remove earned coins and coin allowances with the Excel template in Settings, Rewards. Adjustments change balances rather than overwrite them.

This prototype demo is aware that you are reading “{title}”. It can point you back to the current article, but a production article-aware Fin contract is still follow-up work.

Prototype article-aware answer

Because you already asked about invitations, this prototype demo can add the follow-up: use the role selector before sending each invite to limit access to the teammate responsibilities.

Prototype role-limiting follow-up

This prototype demo suggests starting with your workspace profile, inviting the team members who need access, and then connecting the integrations you use.

Prototype getting-started answer

In this prototype demo, integrations are configured from workspace settings. Choose the integration, connect the account, and review the enabled permissions.

Prototype integrations answer

In this prototype demo, invite teammates from workspace settings, then choose the access each teammate needs before sending the invitation.

Prototype invite-team answer

This prototype demo does not have a scripted answer for that question yet. Try asking how to invite your team or open a source article. No production Fin API was called.
