How Direct Rewards work
Direct Rewards are sent directly by an Admin or Rewards Manager. They do not use Matter Coins and do not require a Matter account to redeem. Every reward is delivered via email, and Matter users can also receive notifications in Slack or Microsoft Teams.
You can send Direct Rewards to:
People on your team (Matter members)
Contractors or freelancers
External partners and vendors
Large distribution lists (up to 5,000 external emails at a time)
How to Send Direct Rewards
1) Navigate to Direct Rewards
Open the Web App.
Go to Rewards Manager, then the Direct Rewards section.
Click Send Rewards.
2) Select a Reward
Choose from the available reward catalog and enter a reward amount.
You can also include:
Message to recipient (optional)
Internal memo (optional, not visible to the recipient)
Choose how recipients are notified:
All Direct Rewards are delivered by email.
If the recipient is already a Matter user, you can also enable Slack or Microsoft Teams notifications.
3) Select Recipient(s)
Reward recipient options include:
Matter Members: Select individuals, groups, channels, or your entire organization.
External Recipients: Paste one or more email addresses (comma-separated). There is a maximum of 5,000 external email recipients per order.
Note: You can't have both Matter Members and External Recipients in the same order. You can only choose one or the other per order.
4) Review and Place Your Order
The Review screen will show total costs and allow you to select your payment method (Matter Account Balance or a Credit Card)
Click Place Order to send your rewards.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Do Direct Rewards use Coins?
No. Direct Rewards are separate from the Matter Coins system.
Q: Can I send rewards to someone outside my company?
Yes. External recipients only need an email address.
Q: Is there a minimum amount to send?
No. There is no minimum reward amount required.
Q: What happens if a reward is out of stock?
The recipient’s reward will be marked as Refunded, and the unused amount will be returned to your payment method.
