What is Challenges?
Challenges allow companies to inspire action that aligns with company goals, reinforces company culture, and rewards behaviors that move your people forward. You can use a default challenge or create your own custom challenge to incentivize team members. Admins can share challenges in Slack/Teams, empower award managers to approve/decline claims, and provide full reporting to analyze results.
Why Challenges are Important
It’s no secret that when employees feel motivated and engaged, they perform better and stick around longer. Challenges help drive that engagement by turning goals into rewarding habits.
Why Challenges with Matter
Matter's Challenges is designed to be easy-to-use and highly customizable, fully integrating with Slack and Microsoft Teams. Here's how we inspire action and reward achievement with challenges:
Fully Integrated in Slack/Teams: Announce new challenges, allow team members to submit claims, and allow award managers to approve/decline claim requests.
Customizable to Fit Your Culture and Goals: Whether it’s wellness, learning, onboarding, or security compliance, you can create challenges around what matters most. Set reward amounts, deadlines, claim limits, and approval workflows — all fully customizable.
Effortless Claiming, Reviewing, and Rewarding: Team members can claim challenges with a short explanation or file upload, award managers get notified in Slack/Teams to review and approve with a click, and coins are automatically delivered for successful claims. No spreadsheets, no bottlenecks, etc.
Challenge Examples
When you first enable Challenges, your account will be preloaded with example challenges. These are fully editable and intended to be used as-is or to provide inspiration. View all preloaded example challenges. Below are a few examples:

Share/Announce a Challenge in Slack/Teams
Once a challenge is live, you’ll receive a direct message from Matter in Slack/Teams. This message will include the ability to "View Challenge" or "Share Challenge".
Sharing the challenge will open a templated message that you can customize (including the name, description, challenge image, coin reward, etc.) and send to your Matter-connected channel, allowing team members to view and make a claim.
