Matter

Install Matter in Slack in two parts: add the Matter app to your Slack workspace, then add it to any public, private, or shared channel in Slack.

Installing Matter in Slack

Add Matter to a private Slack channel by typing @MatterBot install in it, or create a Matter channel from the MatterBot Home tab and set it to private.

Adding Matter to a private Slack channel

Add or remove members by adding or removing them from the Matter-connected Slack channel. The web app syncs with Slack every 24 hours.

Adding and removing users to Matter in Slack

Matter works with Slack Connect. Each external organization must set Slack's Email Display to include people from external organizations they connect to.

Using Matter with Slack Connect

Turn on Require App Approval in Slack so only owners, admins, and people you choose can install or remove Matter. Kudos and rewards keep working as usual.

Control who can install or remove Matter in Slack

Move Matter to a new Slack channel without losing history: type @MatterBot transfer in the destination channel, pick the source channel, and click Transfer.

Transfer Matter to a new channel in Slack

Give Kudos missing from Slack's / menu? Usual causes: a shortcut conflict with another app, Matter not added on Enterprise Grid, or a stale install.

Matter for Slack

Enterprise Grid lets Owners and Admins on the Enterprise plan connect Matter to unlimited Slack channels, each with its own settings, from one workspace.

Adding Matter to another channel on Slack (Enterprise Grid)

In Slack, join any public Matter channel by clicking Join Channel on the Matter Home tab. Bring in a colleague by adding them or sending them kudos there.

Joining Matter Slack channels

Uninstall Matter from Slack by deleting the channel, or keep it and remove only Matter in the web app. Uninstalling cancels billing and hides your history.

How to uninstall Matter from Slack

Auto-add new people to Matter in Slack by making your Matter channel a Slack default channel. Only Slack Owners and Admins can set it; it must be public.

How to automatically add people to Matter in Slack

Matter syncs the web app with your Slack channel every 24 hours, so new members appear the next day. Email support@matterapp.com for an urgent manual sync.

Slack channel members not showing in the Matter web app

Rename MatterBot in Slack: open Matter in the Slack Marketplace, go to Configuration, Bot User, click Edit, enter the new name, and click Save Changes.

How to change the Slack bot name for Matter

Add Matter to more Slack channels, add or remove members, join channels and uninstall.

This prototype demo is aware that you are reading “{title}”. It can point you back to the current article, but a production article-aware Fin contract is still follow-up work.

Prototype article-aware answer

Because you already asked about invitations, this prototype demo can add the follow-up: use the role selector before sending each invite to limit access to the teammate responsibilities.

Prototype role-limiting follow-up

This prototype demo suggests starting with your workspace profile, inviting the team members who need access, and then connecting the integrations you use.

Prototype getting-started answer

In this prototype demo, integrations are configured from workspace settings. Choose the integration, connect the account, and review the enabled permissions.

Prototype integrations answer

In this prototype demo, invite teammates from workspace settings, then choose the access each teammate needs before sending the invitation.

Prototype invite-team answer

This prototype demo does not have a scripted answer for that question yet. Try asking how to invite your team or open a source article. No production Fin API was called.
