Move Matter to a new Slack channel without losing history: type @MatterBot transfer in the destination channel, pick the source channel and click Transfer.

Written by Brett Hellman

You can move your existing Matter installation to a new Slack channel without losing any history. Create the destination channel, type @MatterBot transfer there, then pick the source channel and click Transfer.

Who can use this: Workspace Owners and Admins on every plan. Slack only. Using Microsoft Teams? See Transfer Matter to a new channel in Microsoft Teams.

Before you start

Identify two channels:

  • Source Channel: the channel where Matter is currently installed.

  • Destination Channel: the channel you want to transfer your existing Matter installation to. The destination channel needs to exist before you start the transfer.

Once you've identified your source channel and created your destination channel, follow the steps below.

Transfer Matter to the new channel

  1. Go to the destination channel and type @MatterBot transfer. If @MatterBot has not already been added to the channel, invite @MatterBot first.

  2. Click Start Channel Transfer.

Confirm the transfer worked

Send a kudos in the destination channel. If the transfer was successful, you'll see the kudos appear in the destination channel.
