Onboarding survey settings help you customize how surveys are delivered, how responses are collected, and how results are shared. Configuring these options ensures you capture honest, timely, and actionable feedback from new hires — all while maximizing participation.
How to Access Onboarding Survey Settings
Open the Web App.
Click Surveys Manager in the navigation menu, then Onboarding Surveys.
In the Onboarding Survey section, click the Settings button in the upper right.
Delivery Timing
Onboarding surveys are automatically sent Monday through Friday during business hours (9 AM – 5 PM local time). If a scheduled send time falls outside these hours, the survey will be sent on the next business day. This ensures that surveys arrive at optimal times and don’t get buried outside working hours.
Survey Anonymity
Choose how responses are shared with admins:
Anonymous: Hides employee names, encouraging more honest and candid feedback.
Attributed: Includes employee names, which is helpful for follow-ups, coaching, and accountability. Selecting the right anonymity setting depends on whether you want broad, anonymous feedback trends or more actionable, individualized insights.
Communication
Matter sends onboarding surveys directly in Slack or Microsoft Teams, ensuring high visibility and engagement. You can also enable additional communication features to boost participation:
Send Surveys via Email: Enable email delivery alongside Slack/Teams to reach employees who may not check those platforms regularly.
Reminders to Recipients: Automatically send smart reminders to participants who haven’t completed their surveys. Matter optimizes reminder timing to improve response rates.
Notifications
Stay informed about onboarding survey activity with admin notifications delivered by Matter in Slack/Teams. Notifications include:
New Responses: Get notified when new feedback is submitted.
Weekly Digest: Receive a summary of survey activity each week.
By default, all admins receive notifications. You can optionally choose specific team members to receive these updates.
Rewards
Boost participation and speed up response times by rewarding employees for completing onboarding surveys. Rewards have been shown to increase completion rates by up to 35%.
Coins per Member per Survey Completion: Choose how many Matter coins to award for each completed survey (e.g., 20 Matter Coins = $2 USD). Adding rewards helps ensure that new hires complete their surveys promptly, giving you richer and more reliable data.
