How to find your Microsoft Teams version and generate logs for troubleshooting

Find your Teams version and collect Teams log files on desktop and mobile so Matter or Microsoft support can diagnose an issue.

If Microsoft Teams isn't working as expected, our team or Microsoft Support may ask for your Teams version and log files. Here's how to find both on desktop and mobile.

Find your Teams version

Desktop (Windows and Mac)

  1. Open Microsoft Teams.

  2. Select Settings and more (the ... next to your profile picture), then Settings.

  3. Select About Teams at the bottom of the left-hand menu.

  4. Your version is listed under Version. If you see Update now, select it to install the latest version.

Mobile (iPhone, iPad, and Android)

  1. Open the Teams app and tap your profile picture.

  2. Tap Settings, then About.

  3. Your version is shown on the About page. To update, open the App Store or Google Play, search for Microsoft Teams, and install any available update.

Generate Teams log files

Desktop (Windows and Mac)

  1. Open Microsoft Teams and, if you can, reproduce the issue first. Logs are most useful when collected right after the problem happens.

  2. Generate the logs for your operating system:

    • Windows: Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + 1, or select the Teams icon in your system tray and choose Collect support files.

    • Mac: Press Option + Command + Shift + 1, or open the Help menu in Teams and choose Collect support files.

  3. Wait until the Downloading web logs banner in Teams disappears.

  4. Open your Downloads folder. You'll find a compressed web logs file (for most work accounts it starts with PROD-WebLogs) and a folder beginning with MSTeams Support Logs. Compress the folder into a .zip file before sending it.

Using Teams in a web browser? The same keyboard shortcuts work there too.

Mobile (iPhone, iPad, and Android)

The Teams mobile app doesn't save log files to your device. Instead, logs are sent directly to Microsoft along with feedback, if your organization's Teams admin has enabled log collection.

  1. Tap your profile picture, then Settings.

  2. Tap Help and feedback, then Send feedback.

  3. Turn on Attach logs to help troubleshoot, describe the issue, and send.

Don't see the option to attach logs? Your Teams admin can turn it on by setting AllowLogCollection in your organization's Teams feedback policy. See Microsoft's guide: Manage feedback policies in Microsoft Teams.

If you're contacting Matter about a mobile issue, please also send us your Teams version and a screenshot or screen recording of the problem.

For IT admins

Teams admins can also collect desktop logs remotely, without involving the user. In the Teams admin center, go to Manage users, select the user, and choose Request client logs. Logs can take up to 8 hours to be ready.

To let mobile users attach logs when sending feedback, set AllowLogCollection to true in your Teams feedback policy using the Set-CsTeamsFeedbackPolicy PowerShell cmdlet. Full instructions are in Microsoft's guide: Manage feedback policies in Microsoft Teams. Mobile feedback policies aren't available in GCC, GCC High, or DoD environments.

What's in the logs

Log files contain diagnostic information about how the Teams app is running, not the content of your messages or documents. In some cases, error details may include user names or email addresses. Logs record times in UTC, so let us know your time zone and roughly when the issue happened.
