Receiving a spot award

Learn where your spot award shows up, how you're notified, and how to use the coins that come with it.

Written by Brett Hellman

When someone gives you a spot award, Matter lets you know in Slack or Microsoft Teams and, if the award includes coins, adds them to your balance.

💡 New to Matter Spot Awards? Start with the Spot Awards Guide. Spot Awards work the same way in Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the Web App, even if your workspace uses its own name, like Hero Award.

How will I know I got a spot award?

  • Public award: Matter posts it in your Matter channel and mentions you, so you get a notification.

  • Private award: Matter sends it to you in a message, and it isn't posted in the channel.

  • Group award: If you're in a group that receives an award, you get your own notification and the full coin amount.

Public awards also appear on the Home page of the Web App.

How do I use my coins?

Coins from a spot award are added to the coins you can redeem. Each person gets the full amount shown on the award, for example 50 coins each.
