To stay informed while avoiding notification overload, Microsoft Teams provides two major areas where you can adjust your notifications for Matter: the Channel Settings and the Activity Notifications Settings. This guide walks you through how to customize your notifications for Matter in both areas.
Adjusting Channel Notifications
The second place to manage notifications is at the channel level within Microsoft Teams, where Matter is connected.
Go to the Matter Channel: Navigate to the Matter-connected channel in Teams.
More Options in Channel: Click the three dots (More Options) next to the channel name and select Channel Notifications.
Choose Notification Preferences: Here, you have two options for notifications:
Notify for All New Posts: Get notified for all new messages in the channel.
Notify for Channel Mentions Only: Only receive notifications when you are specifically mentioned in the channel.
Notification Delivery Options: You can choose how to receive notifications:
Banner and Feed: Notifications will appear as both a banner and in your activity feed.
Only Feed: Notifications will appear only in your feed.
Off: Turn off notifications entirely, except for mentions.
If you only want to be notified when you’re mentioned in the channel, select Off for other notifications, then click Save.
Adjusting Activity Notifications Settings
The first place to control your Matter notifications is in the Activity tab for your Microsoft Teams account.
Navigate to Activity Tab: Open the Activity tab in Microsoft Teams.
More Options: Click the three dots (More Options) next to Activity and select Notification Settings.
Find Chats and Channels: In the Notifications and Activity section, scroll down to Chats and Channel.
Manage Notifications for Kudos: Matter sends kudos notifications directly in your channels. We recommend keeping @mentions notifications turned on, so you’re notified when someone tags you.
However, if you prefer not to receive notifications for kudos given to others in the channel, you can adjust this under Posts shown in pinned channels by toggling the notifications off.
