Customizing Feedback Friday message text

Learn how to edit the text of your Feedback Friday kickoff, mid day, last call, and recap messages to match your company's voice, branding, or language.

Written by Sam Lepak

Feedback Friday™ messages are written to work out of the box, but you can rewrite them to sound like your company. You can edit the text of the following messages:

  • Kickoff

  • Mid Day Reminder

  • Last Call

  • Recap

Note: The Stats Message can be toggled on or off, but its text cannot be edited. This message is available on Slack only.

Edit your Feedback Friday message text

  1. Open the Web App.

  2. Go to Settings, then the Feedback Friday section.

  3. Find the message you want to change and edit the text in the field below it.

  4. Click Save at the bottom to confirm your changes.

Each message has a Reset to default link if you want to go back to Matter's original wording.

Tip: Click See preview next to any message to see how it will look in Slack or Microsoft Teams before Feedback Friday runs.

When to customize your message text

Make it sound like your team. The default messages are intentionally neutral. Rewriting them in your own voice, with the phrases and nicknames your team actually uses, makes the ritual feel like yours.

Match your ritual name. If you have renamed Feedback Friday, check that your message text uses the same name. See Change the name of Feedback Friday.

Write in your team's language. If your team does not work in English, you can rewrite each message in the language your team uses.

Point people to what matters this week. Some teams use the kickoff to tie recognition to a current priority, such as a launch, a busy season, or a company value they are focused on.
