Giving a spot award in Slack, Teams, or the Web App

Learn how Award Managers give a spot award in Slack, Microsoft Teams, or the Matter Web App, publicly or privately.

Written by Brett Hellman

Award Managers give a spot award from the Matter App Home in Slack, the Matter tab in Microsoft Teams, or Give Spot Award in the Matter Web App.

šŸ’” New to Matter Spot Awards? Start with the Spot Awards Guide. Spot Awards work the same way in Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the Web App, even if your workspace uses its own name, like Hero Award.

New Award Manager?

If you got a message from Matter saying you're an Award Manager, you can now give that award to your teammates. The message shows your budget, if you have one. Click Give Spot Award in that message to start, or use any of the options below.

Give a spot award in Slack

  1. In Slack, go to Apps, then Matter, and click the Home tab.

  2. If you have more than one Matter channel, select the channel.

  3. Click Give Spot Award.

  4. Fill in the form (see What to fill in below) and click Give Award.

You can also click Give Spot Award in your Award Manager message from Matter.

Give a spot award in Microsoft Teams

  1. In Teams, open your Matter channel and click the Matter tab at the top.

  2. Click Give Spot Award under the kudos box.

  3. Fill in the form (see What to fill in below) and click Give Award.

You can also click Give Spot Award in your Award Manager message from Matter.

Give a spot award from the Web App

  1. Open the Web App.

  2. On the Home page, click Give Spot Award under the kudos box.

  3. Fill in the form and click Give Award.

What to fill in

  • šŸ† Award: Pick the award. You'll see the coins per recipient and your budget.

  • šŸ‘¤ Give to: Pick one or more people or groups. You can't give a spot award to yourself.

  • āœļø Message: The award's default message is filled in. Make it personal. {user} tags the recipients and {award_name} adds the award name.

  • šŸ‘ļø Visibility: Public posts it in your Matter channel in Slack/Teams and in the Web App. Private sends it only to the recipients: in Slack, as a group message with you, the recipients, and Matter, and in Teams, as a message from Matter to each recipient.

Giving to a group

Every person in the group receives the award and the full coin amount. Anyone in more than one group, or also picked by name, receives it once. If you're in the group, you're left out.

Your budget counts every recipient: a 50 coin award given to a group of 10 uses 500 coins.

FAQs

Q: I use Teams and don't see Give Spot Award in the Matter app.

In Teams, give awards from the Matter tab in your Matter channel, or click Give Spot Award in your Award Manager message from Matter.

Q: Why don't I see Give Spot Award?

You only see it if you're an Award Manager for at least one active award. Ask a Matter admin to add you.

Q: It says I don't have enough budget left.

Your budget can't cover every recipient. Choose fewer recipients, or wait until your budget resets on the date shown. If your budget doesn't refresh, ask an admin.

Q: I gave an award to the wrong person.

Ask a Matter admin. They can adjust coin balances if needed.
