Award Managers are the people an admin allows to give a specific spot award. Each Award Manager can have an unlimited or a fixed coin budget for that award.
đĄ New to Matter Spot Awards? Start with the Spot Awards Guide. Spot Awards work the same way in Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the Web App, even if your workspace uses its own name, like Hero Award.
Who can be an Award Manager?
Anyone in your Matter workspace. Award Managers don't need to be Matter admins, so you can choose team leads, department heads, or anyone you trust to recognize great work. Each award has its own list of Award Managers.
How to add Award Managers
Open the Web App.
Go to Awards Manager, then the Spot Awards section.
Click ⎠next to the award, then Edit, then Continue to the Configure step.
Under Award Managers, search for a person, or under Add All, click Admins or Group Managers.
Choose each person's Award Budget, then click Continue and Save.
When the award is active, each Award Manager gets a message from Matter in Slack/Teams with a Give Spot Award button. The admin who makes the change doesn't get one. What Award Managers see
How budgets work
Unlimited: The Award Manager can give this award as often as they like. It shows as No Limit.
Fixed: The Award Manager can give up to a set number of coins for this award in each period.
A budget is counted in coins, not awards. Each recipient gets the full coin amount, so:
Coins used = coins per recipient Ă number of recipients
For example, a 50 coin award given to 3 people uses 150 coins. Given to a group of 40, it uses 2,000 coins.
If rewards are turned off for an award, there's no budget, and Award Managers can give it as often as they like.
When do budgets refresh?
Choose how often every Award Manager's budget resets for that award: weekly, every two weeks, monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Budgets reset in your workspace's time zone, and the Configure step shows the next reset date. Choose Do not refresh for a one time budget.
Where can I see budget usage?
In Manage Spot Awards, the Coin Budget column shows how many coins have been used across all Award Managers for each award, or No Limit.
Award Managers see their own budget when they give the award, for example: For this award, your budget is 5,000 coins per month. You have 3,000 coins left.
FAQs
Q: What happens when an Award Manager runs out?
Matter stops the award before it's sent and shows how many coins are left, how many the award needs, and when the budget resets. If the budget doesn't refresh, it asks them to contact an admin.
Q: Do coins cost anything when a spot award is given?
No. Coins are free to give and receive. You're only charged when an admin approves a reward redemption. See Do I prepay for coins and rewards? and How Matter coins work.
Q: Does a spot award budget affect someone's kudos allowance?
No. Spot award budgets are separate from coin allowances.
