To get started, we recommend watching our Matter Installation for Teams video guide. A few important installation notes:

  • You can install Matter into a public/private team and a public channel, but not a private channel. This is due to Microsoft Teams restrictions.

  • Some organizations may have app installation restrictions. If this is the case, you'll need to contact your IT Administrator or Team Owner to install Matter.

Option 1: How to Add Matter to a Team/Channel via Web Browser or Teams App

  1. Step 1 is dependent on your starting point.

    1. From the web browser, go to Matterapp.com or Teams AppSource.

    2. Inside the Teams app, go to Apps, and type Matter in the search bar and select Matter.

  2. Click Add and select the desired channel.

  3. Complete the rest of the setup process (i.e., install Matter tab, etc.).

  4. Once added successfully, Matter will send a welcome kudos message in the channel.

Option 2: How to Add Matter to a Team/Channel via Channel Tab

  1. Go into the desired Teams channel.

  2. Click the + symbol at the top, next to Posts, Files, etc.

  3. Type Matter in the search bar and select Matter.

  4. Complete the rest of the setup process (i.e., install Matter tab, etc.).

  5. Once added successfully, Matter will send a welcome kudos message in the channel.

Option 3: Ask Team Owner to Add Matter to a Team/Channel

  1. Select the desired team.

  2. Click ... and in the drop-down select Manage team.

  3. In the Members tab, Owners will be listed under the Owners section.

You can direct Owners to Matterapp.com to install Matter for your team.
